The Job Descriptive Index – JDI (Revised) was developed by Mary Roznowski (based on original by Smith, Kendall, & Hulin) (1989). It is designed to measure Job Satisfaction. The scale is intended for use with Working adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 72 items organized into 5 factors/subscales: Work on present job, Present pay, Opportunities for promotion, Supervision on present job, People on your present job.

Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: Y = Yes (describes the feature), N = No (does not describe the feature), ? = Cannot decide.
The scale includes 36 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Alpha values range from .75 to .94 across subscales.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
