Scale Overview
The Interpersonal Sexual Objectification Scale – ISOS was developed by Angela L. Denchik, H. B. Kozee, T. L. Tylka, C. L. Augustus-Horvath (2005). It is designed to measure Interpersonal Sexual Objectification. The scale is intended for use with Women.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 42 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Body Evaluation – Lifetime, Body Evaluation – Past Year, Sexual Advances – Lifetime, Sexual Advances – Past Year.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Never, 2 = Rarely, 3 = Occasionally, 4 = Frequently, 5 = Almost Always.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 1 to 5. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low frequency of sexual objectification: 1 – 2
- Moderate frequency of sexual objectification: 2 – 3
- High frequency of sexual objectification: 3 – 5
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alphas typically range from .91 to .96 for the subscales.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
