Scale Overview
The Interpersonal Communication Inventory – Superior/Subordinate Version (ICI-S) was developed by Jennifer Lyn Graham (adapted from Millard J. Bienvenu) (1998). It is designed to measure Interpersonal Communication. The scale is intended for use with Working adults / employees.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 40 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 2 = Yes (usually), 1 = Sometimes, 0 = No (seldom).
The scale includes 20 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 80. Interpretation guidelines:
- Poor Communication Patterns: 0 – 39
- Moderate Communication Patterns: 40 – 60
- Good Communication Patterns: 61 – 80

Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Not specified.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
