Scale Overview
The Internet Addiction Test – IAT was developed by Kimberly S. Young (1998). It is designed to measure Internet Addiction. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents and adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 20 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Does not apply, 1 = Rarely, 2 = Occasionally, 3 = Frequently, 4 = Often, 5 = Always.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 100. Interpretation guidelines:
- Average usage: 0 – 39
- Problematic usage: 40 – 69
- Severely problematic usage: 70 – 100

Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Varies by population; generally acceptable to good internal consistency.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
