Scale Overview
The ICA Communication Audit – Communication Relationship Scale (ICA-CRS) was developed by Gerald M. Goldhaber et al. (1977). It is designed to measure Organizational Communication Relationships. The scale is intended for use with Employees and organizational staff.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 15 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Immediate Supervisor, Personal Influence, Coworkers, Top Management.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly Agree, 2 = Agree, 3 = Uncertain, 4 = Disagree, 5 = Strongly Disagree.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 15 to 75. Interpretation guidelines:
- Highly Satisfactory Communication Relationships: 15 – 30
- Moderately Satisfactory Communication Relationships: 31 – 45
- Unsatisfactory Communication Relationships: 46 – 60
- Highly Unsatisfactory Communication Relationships: 61 – 75
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Immediate supervisor: 0.94, Personal influence: 0.81, Coworkers: 0.76, Top management: 0.88.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
