Scale Overview
The How is your Family? – Brief Scale for Parents was developed by Fundación W. K. Kellogg (1996). It is designed to measure Family communication and connection. The scale is intended for use with Parents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 11 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: Communication-Connection between spouses, Communication-Connection within the nuclear family.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Never / Very rarely, 1 = Sometimes, 2 = Frequently / Almost always.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 0 to 22. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Communication-Connection: 0 – 7
- Moderate Communication-Connection: 8 – 14
- High Communication-Connection: 15 – 22
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
