Scale Overview
The Holland Code (RIASEC) Interest Inventory was developed by Liao, H.-Y., Armstrong, P. I., & Rounds, J. (2008). It is designed to measure Vocational Interests. The scale is intended for use with Adults and adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 48 items organized into 6 factors/subscales: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, Conventional.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Dislike, 2 = Slightly Dislike, 3 = Neutral, 4 = Slightly Enjoy, 5 = Enjoy.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 8 to 40. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Interest: 8 – 18
- Moderate Interest: 19 – 29
- High Interest: 30 – 40
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of High internal consistency (typically alpha > .80 for all subscales).
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
