Scale Overview
The Hemispheric Dominance Inventory (HDI) was developed by Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) Study Skills Program (Unknown). It is designed to measure Hemispheric Dominance. The scale is intended for use with Adults and students.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 19 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: a = Option A, b = Option B.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 19. Interpretation guidelines:
- Right-Brain Dominant: 0 – 6
- Middle-Brain / Balanced: 7 – 12
- Left-Brain Dominant: 13 – 19

Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Not reported.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
