Scale Overview
The Hemispheric Dominance Inventory (HDI) was developed by Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) Study Skills Program (Unknown). It is designed to measure Hemispheric Dominance. The scale is intended for use with General population, students.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 19 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: a = Option A, b = Option B.
The scale includes 12 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 19. Interpretation guidelines:
- Strong Left-Brain Dominance: 0 – 6
- Bilateral/Mixed Dominance: 7 – 12
- Strong Right-Brain Dominance: 13 – 19
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Not reported.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
