Scale Overview
The Helping and Voice Behaviors Scale was developed by Van Dyne, L., & LePine, J. A. (1998). It is designed to measure Extra-role work behaviors (Helping and Voice). The scale is intended for use with Working adults.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a 7-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly Disagree to 7 = Strongly Agree).
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 1 to 7. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low engagement in extra-role behaviors: 1 – 3
- Moderate engagement in extra-role behaviors: 4 – 5
- High engagement in extra-role behaviors: 6 – 7
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Helping alpha: .85-.95; Voice alpha: .82-.96.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
