Scale Overview
The Goal and Achievement Index (GAI) was developed by C. G. Browne (1950). It is designed to measure Organizational Goal Importance and Achievement. The scale is intended for use with Executives and organizational leaders.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 17 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Extremely Important / Completely Achieved, 2 = Very Important / High Achievement, 3 = Moderately Important / Moderate Achievement, 4 = Minimally Important / Low Achievement, 5 = No Importance / Nothing Done.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 17 to 85. Interpretation guidelines:
- High Importance / High Achievement: 17 – 34
- Moderate Importance / Moderate Achievement: 35 – 68
- Low Importance / Low Achievement: 69 – 85
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
