Scale Overview
The Global Job Satisfaction Scale – GJS was developed by Quinn & Shepard; Pond & Geyer; Rice et al. (1991). It is designed to measure Global Job Satisfaction. The scale is intended for use with Working adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 6 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Lowest satisfaction anchor, 2 = 2, 3 = 3, 4 = 4, 5 = Highest satisfaction anchor.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 1 to 5. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Job Satisfaction: 1 – 2
- Moderate Job Satisfaction: 2 – 3
- High Job Satisfaction: 3 – 5
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of .89.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 2 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
