Scale Overview
The Gender Role Conflict Scale – GRCS was developed by James M. O’Neil, B. J. Helms, R. K. Gable, L. David, L. S. Wrightsman (1986). It is designed to measure Gender Role Conflict. The scale is intended for use with Adult men.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 37 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Success, Power, and Competition (SPC), Restrictive Emotionality (RE), Restrictive Affectionate Behavior Between Men (RABBM), Conflict Between Work and Family Relations (CBWF).

Response anchors: 1 = Strongly Disagree, 2 = Disagree, 3 = Slightly Disagree, 4 = Slightly Agree, 5 = Agree, 6 = Strongly Agree.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 37 to 222. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Gender Role Conflict: 37 – 92
- Moderate Gender Role Conflict: 93 – 148
- High Gender Role Conflict: 149 – 222
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Subscale Cronbach's alphas typically range from .75 to .85.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
