Scale Overview
The Future Aspirations – Peer Leader Survey (FA-PLS) was developed by Center for Urban Affairs and Policy Research and the Comer School Development Program (1993). It is designed to measure Future and career orientation and aspirations. The scale is intended for use with Middle school and older elementary students.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 6 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Not at all important, 2 = Somewhat important, 3 = Important, 4 = Very important.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 1 to 4. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Aspirations: 1 – 2
- Moderate Aspirations: 2 – 3
- High Aspirations: 3 – 4
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 2 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
