Scale Overview
The Functional Disability Inventory – FDI was developed by Lynn S. Walker, John W. Greene (1991). It is designed to measure Functional Disability. The scale is intended for use with Children and adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 15 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = No trouble, 1 = A little trouble, 2 = Some trouble, 3 = A lot of trouble, 4 = Impossible.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 60. Interpretation guidelines:
- No or minimal disability: 0 – 12
- Moderate disability: 13 – 29
- Severe disability: 30 – 60
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.85-0.94.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
