Scale Overview
The Functional Disability Inventory – FDI was developed by Lynn S. Walker, John W. Greene (1991). It is designed to measure Functional disability. The scale is intended for use with Children and adolescents (ages 8-17).
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 15 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = No trouble, 1 = A little trouble, 2 = Some trouble, 3 = A lot of trouble, 4 = Impossible.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 60. Interpretation guidelines:
- No or Minimal Disability: 0 – 12
- Mild Disability: 13 – 20
- Moderate Disability: 21 – 29
- Severe Disability: 30 – 60
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.86 – 0.94.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
