Scale Overview
The Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy – General version (FACT-G) was developed by David Cella (1993). It is designed to measure Health-Related Quality of Life. The scale is intended for use with Cancer patients.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 27 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Physical Well-Being, Social/Family Well-Being, Emotional Well-Being, Functional Well-Being.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Not at All, 1 = A Little, 2 = Somewhat, 3 = Quite a Bit, 4 = Very Much.
The scale includes 12 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of PWB: 0.89, SWB: 0.71, EWB: 0.71, FWB: 0.87, Total: 0.91.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
