Scale Overview
The Friendship Quality Questionnaire – Revised (FQQ-R) was developed by Jeffrey G. Parker & Steven R. Asher (1993). It is designed to measure Friendship Quality. The scale is intended for use with Children and adolescents (middle childhood).
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 41 items organized into 6 factors/subscales: Validation and caring, Conflict resolution, Conflict and betrayal, Help and guidance, Companionship and recreation, Intimate exchange.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Not at all true, 1 = A little true, 2 = Somewhat true, 3 = Pretty true, 4 = Really true.
The scale includes 6 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 0 to 164. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Friendship Quality: 0 – 54
- Moderate Friendship Quality: 55 – 109
- High Friendship Quality: 110 – 164
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha ranges from .73 to .90 for the subscales.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
