Scale Overview
The Friel Co-Dependency Assessment Inventory – FCAI was developed by John Friel, Linda Friel (1985). It is designed to measure Codependency. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 60 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a dichotomous True/False format.
The scale includes 30 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 60. Interpretation guidelines:
- Little Need for Concern: 0 – 20
- Moderate Need for Concern: 21 – 30
- Moderate to Severe Need for Concern: 31 – 45
- Severe Need for Concern & Intervention: 46 – 60
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
