Scale Overview
The Four-Component Model of Employee Retention was developed by Gansser & Godbersen (2017). It is designed to measure Employee Retention. The scale is intended for use with Employed adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 14 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Affective Employee Retention, Cognitive Employee Retention, Normative Employee Retention, Contractual Employee Retention.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly disagree, 2 = Disagree, 3 = Slightly disagree, 4 = Slightly agree, 5 = Agree, 6 = Strongly agree.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 1 to 6. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Commitment: 1 – 2
- Moderate Commitment: 3 – 4
- High Commitment: 5 – 6
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha = .72 to .86.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
