Scale Overview
The Female Sexual Distress Scale—Revised (FSDS-R) was developed by Leonard R. Derogatis, Robert Pyke, Julie McCormack, Adria Hunter, Gale Harding (2008). It is designed to measure Sex-related personal distress. The scale is intended for use with Adult women (pre- and postmenopausal).
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 13 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a 5-point frequency scale (1 = Never to 5 = Always).
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 52. Interpretation guidelines:
- Non-clinical level of sexual distress: 0 – 10
- Clinical level of sexual distress: 11 – 52
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha > .88.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
