Feedback Instrument for Rescue Force Development (FIRE)
Measures the quality of training for rescue forces across learning processes and learning outcomes.
Scale Development & Technical Details
Scale Overview
The Feedback Instrument for Rescue Force Development (FIRE) was developed by Schulte & Thielsch (2019). It is designed to measure Training quality evaluation for rescue forces. The scale is intended for use with Rescue forces, firefighters, emergency services personnel, and training participants.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 21 items organized into 6 factors/subscales: Lecturer Behavior, Requirement Level, Structure, Group, Acquisition of Competence, Transfer.
| Factor / Subscale | Items | N |
|---|---|---|
| Lecturer Behavior | 1,2,3,4 | 4 |
| Requirement Level | 5,6,7 | 3 |
| Structure | 8,9,10 | 3 |
| Group | 11,12,13 | 3 |
| Acquisition of Competence | 14,15,16,17,18 | 5 |
| Transfer | 19,20,21 | 3 |
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly disagree, 2 = Disagree, 3 = Somewhat disagree, 4 = Neutral, 5 = Somewhat agree, 6 = Agree, 7 = Strongly agree.
The scale includes 3 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's Alpha >= 0.73, McDonald's Omega h >= 0.76.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
