Scale Overview
The Fear of Missing Out Scale – FoMOs was developed by Przybylski, A. K., Murayama, K., DeHaan, C. R., & Gladwell, V. (2013). It is designed to measure Fear of Missing Out. The scale is intended for use with General population.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 10 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Not at all true of me, 2 = Slightly true of me, 3 = Moderately true of me, 4 = Very true of me, 5 = Extremely true of me.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 10 to 50. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low FoMO: 10 – 22
- Moderate FoMO: 23 – 37
- High FoMO: 38 – 50
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of α = .87 to .90.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
