Scale Overview
The Family Schema-Ethnic – FSCH-E was developed by Hamilton I. McCubbin, Anne I. Thompson, Kelly M. Elver (1992). It is designed to measure Family ethnic schema and cultural values. The scale is intended for use with Families.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 40 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = False, 1 = Mostly false, 2 = Mostly true, 3 = True.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 120. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low alignment with ethnic family schema: 0 – 40
- Moderate alignment with ethnic family schema: 41 – 80
- High alignment with ethnic family schema: 81 – 120
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.88.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
