Scale Overview
The False Self Scale – Relationship with God (FSS-RG) was developed by L. K. Sippola, C. M. Buchanan, & S. Kehoe (2007). It is designed to measure Relationship-specific authenticity in relationship with God. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents and adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 7 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly disagree, 2 = Somewhat disagree, 3 = Neither agree nor disagree, 4 = Somewhat Agree, 5 = Strongly Agree.
The scale includes 1 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 1 to 5. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low False Self (High Authenticity): 1 – 2
- Moderate False Self: 2 – 3
- High False Self (Low Authenticity): 3 – 5
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
