Scale Overview
The Extrinsic Religious Values Scale – ERV was developed by W. C. Wilson (1960). It is designed to measure Extrinsic Religious Orientation. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 15 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Intrinsic choice, 1 = Extrinsic choice.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 15. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Extrinsic Religious Orientation: 0 – 5
- Moderate Extrinsic Religious Orientation: 6 – 10
- High Extrinsic Religious Orientation: 11 – 15
