Scale Overview
The European American Values Scale for Asian Americans – EAVS-AA was developed by Maren M. Wolfe, Peggy H. Yang, Eunice P. Wong, and Donald R. Atkinson (2001). It is designed to measure Adherence to European American values. The scale is intended for use with Asian Americans.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 18 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a 7-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly Disagree to 7 = Strongly Agree).
The scale includes 6 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 1 to 7. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low adherence to European American values: 1 – 3
- Moderate adherence to European American values: 3 – 5
- High adherence to European American values: 5 – 7
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.78.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
