Scale Overview
The ENRICH: Enriching and Nurturing Relationship Issues, Communication, and Happiness – Children and Marriage Scale was developed by David H. Olson, David G. Fournier, & Jerry M. Druckman (1985). It is designed to measure Marital satisfaction and parental agreement. The scale is intended for use with Married or cohabiting couples with children.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 10 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly agree, 2 = Moderately agree, 3 = Neither agree nor disagree, 4 = Moderately disagree, 5 = Strongly disagree.
The scale includes 6 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 10 to 50. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Parental Agreement / High Marital Strain: 10 – 25
- Moderate Parental Agreement: 26 – 35
- High Parental Agreement / Strong Marital Alignment: 36 – 50
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
