Scale Overview
The End of Treatment Rating Scale – EOTRS was developed by Robert C. Nichols & Karl W. Beck (1960). It is designed to measure Change after Therapy. The scale is intended for use with Adults undergoing psychotherapy.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 4 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Worse / Negative change, 2 = No change, 3 = Some improvement, 4 = Considerable improvement, 5 = Great deal of improvement / No longer bothered.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 4 to 19. Interpretation guidelines:
- No improvement or deterioration: 4 – 7
- Minimal improvement: 8 – 11
- Moderate improvement: 12 – 15
- High improvement: 16 – 19
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Not indicated.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
