The Empowerment at Work Scale – EWS was developed by Gretchen M. Spreitzer (1995). It is designed to measure Psychological Empowerment. The scale is intended for use with Employees / Working adults.

Response Format

Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 12 to 84. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Empowerment: 12 – 35
- Moderate Empowerment: 36 – 60
- High Empowerment: 61 – 84

Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Meaning: .81-.87, Competence: .76-.84, Self-determination: .79-.85, Impact: .83-.88, Overall: .62-.72.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
