Scale Overview
The Empowered Veteran Index (EVI) was developed by McDaniel, J. T., Rosen, G., Albright, D. L., York, M., Miller, K., Pekios, H., & Kundan, S. (2023). It is designed to measure Psychosocial Reintegration. The scale is intended for use with Military Veterans.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 45 items organized into 3 factors/subscales: Personal Growth, Connectedness, Community Impact.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a 7-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly Disagree to 7 = Strongly Agree).
The scale includes 2 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 45 to 315. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Empowerment: 45 – 135
- Moderate Empowerment: 136 – 225
- High Empowerment: 226 – 315
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha: .96 (full scale), .90 to .95 (factors).
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
