Scale Overview
The Emotion-Regulation Skills Questionnaire – ERSQ was developed by Berking, M., & Znoj, H. (2008). It is designed to measure Emotion Regulation. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 27 items organized into 9 factors/subscales: Attention, Sensation, Clarity, Understanding, Acceptance, Tolerance, Compassionate Self-Support, Readiness to Confront, Modification.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Not at all, 1 = Rarely, 2 = Sometimes, 3 = Often, 4 = Almost always.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 0 to 108. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Emotion Regulation Skills: 0 – 36
- Moderate Emotion Regulation Skills: 37 – 72
- High Emotion Regulation Skills: 73 – 108
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Total scale Cronbach's alpha ~0.90, subscales range from 0.65 to 0.75.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
