Scale Development & Technical Details
Scale Overview
The Educator Plateauing Survey – EPS was developed by Milstein and Henry (2000). It is designed to measure Educator Plateauing. The scale is intended for use with Educators and school staff.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 30 items organized into 3 factors/subscales: Content, Structure, Life.
| Factor / Subscale | Items | N |
|---|---|---|
| Content | 1,4,6,10,15,17,20,23,24,27 | 10 |
| Structure | 2,3,8,11,13,16,19,22,26,30 | 10 |
| Life | 5,7,9,12,14,18,21,25,28,29 | 10 |
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly Agree, 2 = Agree, 3 = Undecided, 4 = Disagree, 5 = Strongly Disagree.
The scale includes 15 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 30 to 150. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Plateauing: 30 – 75
- Moderate Plateauing: 76 – 110
- High Plateauing: 111 – 150
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
