Scale Overview
The Eating Disorder Diagnostic Scale – EDDS was developed by Eric Stice, M. Fisher, & E. Martinez (2004). It is designed to measure Eating Disorder Symptomatology. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents and adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 22 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Body Dissatisfaction, Binge Eating, Compensatory Behaviors, Physiological Indicators.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Not at all, 2 = Slightly, 4 = Moderately, 6 = Extremely, YES = Yes, NO = No.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 0 to 127. Interpretation guidelines:
- Refer to DSM diagnostic criteria for Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, or Binge Eating Disorder scoring algorithms: 0 – 127
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of High test-retest reliability and internal consistency.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
