Scale Overview
The DSM Screener for Depression was developed by Robert E. Roberts (1993). It is designed to measure Depression. The scale is intended for use with Children and adolescents (middle school students).
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 26 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Hardly ever or never, 1 = Sometimes, 2 = Often, 3 = Almost every day.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 78. Interpretation guidelines:
- Total Score (higher scores indicate more severe depressive symptoms): 0 – 78
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
