The Drug Use Disorders Identification Test – DUDIT was developed by Anne H. Berman, Hans Bergman, Tomas Palmstierna, Claes Schlyter (2003). It is designed to measure Drug use disorders and related problems. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 11 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Never / No, 1 = Less often than once a month, 2 = Every month / Yes, but not over the past year, 3 = Every week, 4 = Daily or almost every day / Yes, over the past year.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 44. Interpretation guidelines:
- No drug-related problems detected (for females): 0 – 1
- Probably has drug-related problems (for females); No drug-related problems detected (for males): 2 – 5
- Probably has drug-related problems (substance abuse/harmful use): 6 – 24
- Highly probable drug dependence: 25 – 44
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
