The Drug Use Disorders Identification Test – DUDIT was developed by Anne H. Berman, Hans Bergman, Tom Palmstierna, Fariba Schlyter (2005). It is designed to measure Drug use disorders and harmful drug use. The scale is intended for use with Adults and adolescents.

This instrument consists of 11 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: Drug Consumption, Drug Problems.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Never / 0 / No, 1 = Once a month or less / 1-2 times, 2 = 2-4 times a month / 3-4 times / Yes, but not in the past year, 3 = 2-3 times a week / 5-6 times, 4 = 4 times a week or more / 7 or more / Daily or almost daily / Yes, over the past year.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 44. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low risk / No drug-related problems (for women): 0 – 1
- Low risk (for men) / Drug-related problems (for women): 2 – 5
- Harmful use / Drug-related problems (for men): 6 – 24
- Probable drug dependence: 25 – 44
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.93.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
