Scale Overview
The Domestic Violence Coping Self-Efficacy Measure – DV-CSE was developed by Benight, C. C., Harding-Taylor, A. S., Midboe, A. M., & Durham, R. L. (2004). It is designed to measure Coping Self-Efficacy. The scale is intended for use with Domestic violence survivors.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 30 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Not Capable, 50 = Moderately Capable, 100 = Totally Capable.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 0 to 100. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Coping Self-Efficacy: 0 – 39
- Moderate Coping Self-Efficacy: 40 – 69
- High Coping Self-Efficacy: 70 – 100
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.97.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
