Scale Overview
The Delinquent Peers Scale – Rochester Youth Development Study (RYDS) was developed by Terence P. Thornberry, Alan J. Lizotte, Marvin D. Krohn, Margaret Farnworth, Sung Joon Jang (1994). It is designed to measure Peer Delinquency. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 8 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = None of them, 2 = A few of them, 3 = Some of them, 4 = Most of them.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 8 to 32. Interpretation guidelines:
- No peer delinquency: 8 – 8
- Low peer delinquency: 9 – 16
- Moderate peer delinquency: 17 – 24
- High peer delinquency: 25 – 32
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
