Scale Overview
The Daily Experience of Simulation Training – DEST (Confidence Subscale) was developed by Chiu, Yu-Ling; Cross, Theodore P.; Wheeler, Amy B.; Evans, Susan M.; Goulet, Betsy P. (2023). It is designed to measure Self-reported confidence in child welfare simulation training. The scale is intended for use with Child protection trainees / investigators.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 13 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Low, 2 = 2, 3 = 3, 4 = 4, 5 = 5, 6 = 6, 7 = High.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 13 to 91. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Confidence: 13 – 38
- Moderate Confidence: 39 – 65
- High Confidence: 66 – 91
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha > 0.95.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
