Scale Overview
The Current Memory Betrayal Blindness Questionnaire (CM-BBQ) was developed by Jennifer M. Gómez, Nelson O. O. Zounlome, & Laura K. Noll (2023). It is designed to measure Betrayal Blindness and Trauma Memory Impact. The scale is intended for use with Adults (specifically validated in emerging adults of Color).
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 18 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Influential, Wanton Disbelief, Unawareness, Not Important.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Never true for me, 1 = 1, 2 = 2, 3 = Always true for me.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 0 to 54. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low impact / Low betrayal blindness: 0 – 18
- Moderate impact / Moderate betrayal blindness: 19 – 36
- High impact / High betrayal blindness: 37 – 54
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Subscales: Influential (α = .88), Wanton Disbelief (α = .73), Unawareness (α = .79), Not Important (α = .78); Overall scale (α = .66).
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
