Scale Development & Technical Details
Scale Overview
The COVID-19 Risk Perception Measure was developed by Lucia Savadori, Oksana Tokarchuk, Massimo Pizzato, Stefania Pighin (2023). It is designed to measure COVID-19 Risk Perception. The scale is intended for use with Adults (18 years and older).
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 13 items organized into 3 factors/subscales: Analytical Risk Perception, Affective Risk Perception, Experiential Risk Perception.
| Factor / Subscale | Items | N |
|---|---|---|
| Analytical Risk Perception | 1,4,5 | 3 |
| Affective Risk Perception | 6,7,8,9 | 4 |
| Experiential Risk Perception | 10,11,12,13 | 4 |
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a 7-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly Disagree to 7 = Strongly Agree).
The scale includes 2 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 11 to 77. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Risk Perception: 11 – 33
- Moderate Risk Perception: 34 – 55
- High Risk Perception: 56 – 77
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha > .70.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
