Scale Overview
The COVID-19 Applicability Measure was developed by Markus Antonius Wirtz, Andrea Heiberger, Carolin Dresch, Anja Alexandra Schulz (2023). It is designed to measure Applicability of COVID-19 prevention measures. The scale is intended for use with Expectant mothers and mothers of infants.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 19 items organized into 5 factors/subscales: Apply hygiene measures, Avoid contact with other people, Avoid public transportation, Stay at home, Check infection status.
| Factor / Subscale | Items | N |
|---|---|---|
| Apply hygiene measures | 3,4,5,6,7 | 5 |
| Avoid contact with other people | 2,9,10,11,16,18 | 6 |
| Avoid public transportation | 8 | 1 |
| Stay at home | 12,13,17,19 | 4 |
| Check infection status | 1,14,15 | 3 |
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Very good, 2 = Good, 3 = Rather good, 4 = Rather poor, 5 = Poor, 6 = Very poor.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 19 to 114. Interpretation guidelines:
- Very Good Implementation: 19 – 38
- Good Implementation: 39 – 57
- Rather Good Implementation: 58 – 76
- Rather Poor Implementation: 77 – 95
- Poor/Very Poor Implementation: 96 – 114
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of α = .562–.777.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
