Scale Overview
The Counselor Perception Measure – CPM was developed by Jim McLennan (1990). It is designed to measure Client perception of counselor characteristics. The scale is intended for use with Counseling clients.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 12 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Never, 2 = Seldom, 3 = 3, 4 = Sometimes, 5 = Often, 6 = 6, 7 = Always.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 12 to 84. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low/Negative Perception: 12 – 35
- Moderate/Neutral Perception: 36 – 60
- High/Positive Perception: 61 – 84
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
