The Conformity to Male Norms Inventory – CMNI was developed by James R. Mahalik, Benjamin D. Locke, Larry H. Ludlow, Matthew A. Diemer, Michael Gottfried, Ryan P. Scott, Gary Freitas (2003). It is designed to measure Conformity to masculine norms. The scale is intended for use with Adult men.

Response anchors: 0 = Strongly Disagree, 1 = Disagree, 2 = Agree, 3 = Strongly Agree.
The scale includes 47 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.

Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 0 to 282. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low conformity to masculine norms: 0 – 94
- Moderate conformity to masculine norms: 95 – 188
- High conformity to masculine norms: 189 – 282
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Total score alpha = .94 (subscales range from .72 to .91).
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
