Scale Overview
The Conflict Behaviour Questionnaire – Adolescent Version (CBQ-A) was developed by Robert J. Prinz, Sharon L. Foster, Ronald N. Kent, & K. Daniel O’Leary (1979). It is designed to measure Parent-Adolescent Conflict. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 20 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a dichotomous True/False format.
The scale includes 8 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 20. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low conflict / distressed dyad unlikely: 0 – 5
- High conflict / distressed dyad likely: 6 – 20
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
