Scale Overview
The Community Integration Measure – CIM was developed by McColl, M.A., Carlson, P., Johnston, J., Minnes, P., Shue, K., Davies, D. (1998). It is designed to measure Community Integration. The scale is intended for use with Adults, including individuals with brain injuries.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 10 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Assimilation, Independent Living, Support, Occupations.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Always disagree, 2 = Sometimes disagree, 3 = Neutral, 4 = Sometimes agree, 5 = Always agree.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 10 to 50. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Community Integration: 10 – 29
- Moderate Community Integration: 30 – 40
- High Community Integration: 41 – 50
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.83 – 0.87.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
