Scale Overview
The Communicative Adaptability Scale (CAS) was developed by Duran, R. L. (1992). It is designed to measure Communicative Adaptability. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents and adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 30 items organized into 6 factors/subscales: Social Composure, Social Confirmation, Social Experience, Appropriate Disclosure, Articulation, Wit.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = never true of me, 2 = rarely true of me, 3 = sometimes true of me, 4 = often true of me, 5 = always true of me.
The scale includes 10 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 30 to 150. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Communicative Adaptability: 30 – 70
- Moderate Communicative Adaptability: 71 – 110
- High Communicative Adaptability: 111 – 150
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 8 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
