Scale Overview
The Commonly Experienced Health Care Barriers Index – CEHCBI was developed by Rivers, Alannah Shelby; Sanford, Keith; Brewington, Morgan; Buchanan, Ashley (2023). It is designed to measure Healthcare Barriers. The scale is intended for use with Adults (18 years and older).
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 6 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = NOT true, 2 = a little true, 3 = moderately true, 4 = completely true.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 6 to 24. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low barriers: 6 – 12
- Moderate barriers: 13 – 18
- High barriers: 19 – 24
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Test-retest reliability r = 0.83.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 2 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
