The Commitment to Not Use Drugs Scale was developed by William B. Hansen & Ralph B. McNeal (1997). It is designed to measure Commitment to drug abstinence. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents and youth.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 8 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly disagree, 2 = Disagree, 3 = Agree, 4 = Strongly agree.
The scale includes 3 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 8 to 32. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Commitment: 8 – 16
- Moderate Commitment: 17 – 24
- High Commitment: 25 – 32
